The Bangkok art scene stays busy this week with major exhibition openings, artist talks, a performance and a Sunday screening across the city's museums and galleries, from Bangkok Kunsthalle to Bangkok CityCity Gallery. Here is your essential guide to the capital's latest art movements.
After Dark: On the Making of "Maelstrom" and "Funeral Rites"
Venue: Bangkok Kunsthalle
Talk: 22 September (8:00 PM – 10:00 PM)
An after-hours conversation with artists Taiki Sakpisit and Daniel Hui, joined by curator Sam I-shan. Held when the Kunsthalle is usually closed, the session traces the making of the spectral works in the exhibition Spirits Melt to Flesh, and opens up the artists' wider film and art practices.
Love After Death
Venue: Bangkok CityCity Gallery
Opening: 25 September (6:00 PM – 9:00 PM), on view until 14 November
Envisioned as an autofiction drawing on conceptual remnants of his previous moving images, Korakrit Arunanondchai's fourth solo exhibition with the gallery blends video footage, performances and scenes from a film shot in an abandoned cinema in Lopburi, Thailand. His fictive narration loosely follows the Lanna legend of the Sihuhata, a mythical creature worshipped for its ability to consume coal and defecate gold. The show looks at the interchangeability between artists and spirit mediums in the tradition of 'ghost cinema,' while shaping the exhibition space as an animistic body able to digest light, heat, memories and feelings and turn them into a collective experience. Conjuring a repertoire of metaphoric symbols, from stuffed animals to bodies in slumber, Love After Death continues the artist's quest to look for the sacred within the profane.

French artist Louise Covillas presents work made during her month-long residency in Thailand, part of the 2026 La Route des Résidences program. The pieces respond directly to the local territory and the research she developed during her stay. On 26 September you can meet the artist and hear about her process over refreshments.
Braty: Prelude Program
Venue: Bangkok Kunsthalle
Workshop: 26 – 27 September
A weekend workshop and prelude to Braty's upcoming exhibition under the Kunsthalle's Open Ground program. Set in a makeshift darkroom, a former restroom soon to be demolished, participants work across conversation, drawing and 16mm film to engage with disappearance, traces and memory in real time.
Octave Maze Live 2026
Venue: Asvin Cultural and Contemporary Art Space
Performance: 26 September (6:00 PM onwards), every Saturday until 10 October
Octave Maze Live is a live performance program that turns Asvin Cultural and Contemporary Art Space into a laboratory for sound and performance. Across the run, musicians, sound artists, performers and DJs respond to Octave Maze, the kinetic installation on view, blurring the line between concert and contemporary art.
Giving Life
Venue: Dib Bangkok
Opening: 26 September, on view until 3 May 2027
Bangkok's newest contemporary art museum opens its next chapter with Giving Life, a sprawling exhibition bringing together more than 160 works by 33 Thai and international artists. Shaped by director Dr. Miwako Tezuka, it marks an ambitious statement of intent for Dib Bangkok less than a year after opening.
A Midsummer Night Dream / The Artificial Lunatic's Diary
Venue: RICHARD KOH
Opening: 26 September, on view until 17 October
Richard Koh Fine Art Bangkok presents Small Works, a set of 13 paintings by Natee Utarit, one of Thailand's foremost contemporary painters, drawn from his series A Midsummer Night Dream / The Artificial Lunatic's Diary, where narrative, allegory and the life of the studio meet.
WOOD YOU? Artist Talk
Venue: ATTA Gallery
Talk: 27 September (2:00 PM – 4:00 PM)
An artist talk with Nucharin Wangpongsawat and Santi Seedarach from the exhibition Cellulose II: Wood, exploring what wood means to each of them as a material that holds stories, memory and feeling. Free to join, in Thai, with limited seats at ATTA in Warehouse 30.
Sunday Cinema: Shoplifters
Venue: Bangkok Kunsthalle
Screening: 27 September (5:30 PM onwards)
The Kunsthalle's Sunday Cinema program screens Hirokazu Kore-eda's Palme d'Or winning Shoplifters (2018, 121 minutes), in the original language with Thai and English subtitles. Walk-in visitors are welcome, with registration opening at 5 PM.
