The Bangkok art scene is animated this week with 10 new exhibitions, openings and events across the city's museums and galleries, from Art4C Art Centre to Bangkok 1899. Here is your essential guide to the capital's latest art movements.
Primal Man
Venue: Art4C Art Centre
Exhibition Dates: 17 – 29 September
A solo exhibition by Rathaket Phuksuk inspired by the world of Far Cry Primal, exploring the transitional era of evolution when humans still sat at the bottom of the food chain and survival was a constant struggle. Amid giant beasts, untamed nature and tribes at different evolutionary stages, every life fights to survive. 2nd Floor, Art4C Art Centre, 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM (closed Mondays).
Two of a kind
Venue: Xspace Art Gallery
Exhibition Dates: 19 September – 31 October
A solo exhibition by Tunlaya Dunn exploring the quiet, intimate connections shared between people and with nature. Combing beaches for shells, rocks and corals and turning twigs and flowers into sun prints, Dunn shifts from creator to admirer of shapes, building a story about the subtle yet special kind of connection. At Mini Xspace FL.1. Opening reception: 19 September, 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM.
Afterimage
Venue: Numthong Art Space
Exhibition Dates: 19 September – 24 October
A solo painting exhibition by Yanapat Soiraya exploring the traces of landscape through the piecing together of memory and the truth recorded by photographs. Rather than copying a scene, Soiraya reconstructs a "mental space", a midpoint between the real place and its dimension in memory, questioning the distance between what the camera lens records and what emotion and imagination add to it. At Numthong Art Space (Soi Ari 5, north side). Opening reception: 19 September, 6:00 PM onwards.
Khun TA (solo exhibition)
Venue: Atelier 9
Exhibition Dates: 19 September – 20 October
A solo exhibition by self-taught Thai artist Khun TA, whose black ink drawings, born of a technique inspired by Zentangle, transform the paper's pristine whiteness into silent poems. The show moves through three realms: the "Hypnotic" series, a botanical world in full bloom, and a marine kingdom of coral where every pattern holds a secret from the ocean depths. Opening: 19 September, 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM. Showcase runs Fri–Sun, 1:00 PM – 8:00 PM (Mon–Thu by appointment).
Sexpectation
Venue: Art4C Art Centre
Exhibition Dates: 19 – 27 September
A group exhibition featuring 25 artists exploring gender and gender roles through the lens of history, society and the people of each era, looking back at the values and frameworks that have long dictated who should be what, how they should express themselves, or even how they should be seen. Sexpectation invites viewers to try on different lenses, shaped by time, social context and perspective, and to start questioning the lens we're looking through right now. Opening reception: Saturday 19 September, 11:00 AM onwards.
The Aesthetics Heritage
Venue: Sriwiang Gallery
Exhibition Dates: 19 September – 31 October
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞 | A Season of Royal Legacy. Group exhibition curated by Pracamkrong Pongpaiboon Vajirravarabhakti and Jetsada Junjarungjit. Opening reception: 19 September (4:30 PM onwards).
Echoes from the Earth: workshop with Rudee Tancharoen (lost-wax casting, Ban Pa-Ao)
Venue: The Jim Thompson Art Center
Workshop: 19 September (1:30 PM – 5:30 PM)
A hands-on workshop with artist Rudee Tancharoen introducing the living tradition of PaAo brass casting from Ban PaAo, including a studio tour and presentation before participants break open clay molds to uncover newly cast brass bells and finish them into keychains. Held at Atelier Rudee as part of the public program for Living in an Elastic Time, with a free shuttle from the Jim Thompson Art Center; registration required, 8 spots, 3,500 THB per person.
Hidden Valley
Venue: Xspace Art Gallery
Exhibition Dates: 19 September – 31 October
A solo exhibition by Duairak Padungvichean exploring her inner self through a whimsical landscape inspired by nature. Hidden Valley, a place tucked between mountain ranges and hidden from the outside world, becomes a metaphor for her own journey of self-discovery, one shaped by curiosity, uncertainty and the faith that kept pushing her forward. Carry On Being
Venue: Joyman Gallery
Exhibition Dates: 20 September – 25 October
"𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗿𝘆 𝗢𝗻 𝗕𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴" Just keep being as you are... Identity, survival, the quiet alienation within the awkward state of existing, and the true meaning of making art—these themes unfurl with poignant warmth and sharp intelligence in the exhibition Carry On Being. Vidéo-mallette (Video-kit) Workshop with ARFI
Venue: Bangkok 1899
Saturday 19 September, 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM
A hands-on audiovisual creation workshop led by French artists Jérôme Lopez (video) and Xavier Garcia (sound), during their residency at Bangkok 1899. Participants build short live videos inside a miniature theater fitted into a briefcase, part of ARFI's residency with Creative Migration and Alliance Française Bangkok.
