Check the main gallery openings, screenings and events in Bangkok this week and this weekend, 12 October – 18 October 2026
The Bangkok art scene is busy this week with 11 new exhibitions, openings and events across the city, from a Bas Jan Ader survey at Bangkok Kunsthalle and Tada Hengsapkul’s encaustic paintings at 100 Tonson Foundation to MOCA’s new show at the Four Seasons and a performance art project on Southeast Asian rivers at BACC. Here is your essential guide to the week ahead.

Exhibition Dates: 12 October – 1 November
Italian artist Gianluca Vernizzi presents tabula rasa, a solo exhibition at MATDOT’s Blacklist Gallery curated by Kiki Sirikorn Panwang. Working with layered surfaces, scratches, tears and repeated repainting, Vernizzi explores the idea of the blank slate: what seems erased never fully disappears, and traces of the past become part of something new. Opening reception: 12 October (6:00 PM onwards).

Chiang Rai International Performance Art Project 2026: River Resistance
Venue: Bangkok Art and Cultural Center (BACC)

Organised by Artist Home International Friendship House (AHIFH) and co-curated by Chakkrit Chimnok, Jeramy Hiah and Michael Barrett, River Resistance brings photography, film, painting, mixed media and archival materials together with live performance art to look at the Kok, Sai, Ruak, Mekong and Salween rivers, and the communities whose lives depend on them. Talks, workshops and open performance activities run alongside the exhibition on the 3rd floor of BACC.

Rather than presenting heritage as fixed history, the show treats it as something still being looked at, questioned and reinterpreted. At the Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok ART Space by MOCA BANGKOK, on the Chao Phraya. Opening reception: 16 October (5:00 PM – 8:00 PM).

The Reimagined Forest
Venue: m Galleria
Exhibition Dates: 17 October – 25 November
A solo exhibition by Watcharin Rodnit at m Galleria on the 3rd floor of River City Bangkok. With expressive brushwork and bold strokes, his paintings turn the forest into an imagined realm of silence, light and shadow, branches and wind. Opening reception: 17 October (5:00 PM onwards).

Has Anyone Ever Asked You Where the Wind Comes From?
Venue: 100 Tonson Foundation
Exhibition Dates: 17 October – 11 April
Tada Hengsapkul’s first painting exhibition introduces his new practice in encaustic, an ancient wax technique now rare in contemporary art. Starting from the capitalism of belief, where worship becomes tied to materialism, Tada turns the Foundation into a contemporary altar for six months, with paintings and sculptures that peel back the surface of popular devotion. Curated by Natdanai Songsriwilai, with workshops, music events and talks to follow. Opening reception: 17 October (5:00 PM onwards).

Misbehave, please.
Venue: Bangkok Kunsthalle
Exhibition Dates: 17 October – 6 December
An exhibition of moving image works by Prapat Jiwarangsan, curated by Rosalia Namsai Engchuan with Graiwoot Chulphongsathorn. Working with photographic archives, Prapat lets images escape their assigned places through analogue film, collage, chemical processes, digital distortion and AI-generated loops, questioning power, order and the systems that keep them in place. An artist and curators’ talk and reception follow on 31 October (4:00 PM – 6:00 PM).

Artist Talk: WOOD YOU?

Venue: Storage Bangkok
Exhibition Dates: 18 October – 12 December
STORAGE presents a solo exhibition by Chatchapon Nuntamanop. Accumulation and gradual formation shape both the ideas and the physical processes behind the works: attuned to states where accumulation and dissolution happen at the same time, the artist captures these conditions across different contexts, materials and processes. The show conceals and reveals at once, asking how a state of suspension can open pathways for intervention, emergence and integration with other entities. Open Thursday to Saturday, 2:00 PM – 7:00 PM, on the 3rd floor of 469 Phra Sumen Road. Opening reception: Sunday 18 October (5:00 PM – 9:00 PM), with an experimental culinary experience by Prang Sayasilpi.
