FAAK
Venue: MATDOT Art Center
Exhibition Dates: 24 August – 30 September
Beneath its playful and seemingly light-hearted approach, FAAK invites us to look again at life, people, and the ways we construct meaning and value around the things we encounter. Rather than offering fixed answers, Michael Shaowanasai's solo exhibition leaves space for viewers to look, interpret, question and engage with the works through their own experiences. Opening reception: 24 August (6:00 PM onwards).
The World Askew
Venue: MATDOT Art Center
Exhibition Dates: 24 August – 30 September
The World Askew invites us to look at the world from a perspective that may feel unfamiliar, where what seems ordinary begins to shift, tilt, and open up new questions about the things we think we know. Opening reception: 24 August (6:00 PM onwards).
Cellulose II: Wood, Wood You? Exploring the Life of a Living Material
Venue: ATTA Gallery
Exhibition Dates: 27 August – 25 October
ATTA Gallery presents a curated group exhibition showing works by eight international artists, with selections from the private collection of Atinuj "Atty" Tantivit woven in to help complete the exhibition's narrative: an exploration of wood as material, medium and living, ever-changing organism. Opening reception: 27 August (6:00 PM – 8:00 PM).
THINK TRASH (ทิ้ง Trash): Music, Poetry & DIY Postcards
Venue: 4 Hi Music Bar
Performance: 27 August (7:30 PM – 11:30 PM)
An evening of live music, poetry and collage exploring what the stories we want to throw away could become instead. Initiated by ppp, a loose collective expanding through everyone who enters, the night moves between individual and shared authorship, with sets from Kaspar Red, Safe As Far East and Sad Children Day, a collective poem, and DIY postcards made from the audience's own words and images.
Contemporary Art Fair (NWL)
Venue: The Corner House
Dates: 29 – 30 August
A weekend transforming all four floors of The Corner House into a space for contemporary art, featuring a special exhibition, hands-on workshops, and works by over 40 artists, making contemporary art more approachable and accessible to everyone.
Shapeshifting
Venue: La Lanta Fine Art
Exhibition Dates: 29 August – 13 October
Thaiwijit Puengkasemsomboon's multidisciplinary practice runs the gamut from abstract painting to mixed media assemblage. Shapeshifting brings together a new series of large abstract paintings on jute and an expanding anthology of portraits on scavenged surfaces, united by his penchant for reworking scrap materials into art amid an ever more pressing call to address the devastation of our natural environment. Opening reception: 29 August (4:00 PM – 7:00 PM).
Across Words Anthology: The Making of a Pavilion Book
Venue: SEA Junction
Book Launch: 30 August
SEA Junction hosts the launch of Across Words, the first in-depth Timorese contemporary art history book, produced for the Timor-Leste Pavilion at the 61st La Biennale di Venezia. Curator Loredana Pazzini Paracciani and researcher Pojai Akratanakul discuss the making of the book, moderated by SEA Junction director Rosalia Sciortino.
