The Permanent Temporary

Teetuch Hongkhongkha collects plastic bags, used for minutes and then thrown away, and melts them into layered wall hangings that read like dense, luminous textiles. Presented by Warin Lab Contemporary and Creative Migration in the gallery room of Bangkok 1899, a house that has stood since 1899, the show sets a home built to last against a material never meant to last that refuses to disappear. Open 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM, closed on Mondays.

Venue: QURO Gallery
Exhibition Dates: 5 November – 2 February
The inaugural exhibition of QURO Gallery, the new space at QURO Bangkok Riverside on Phra Arthit Road (formerly 10 10 Art Space), takes myth-making as a lens on the practices of seven Thai contemporary artists: Ati Kongsuk, Chulayarnnon Siriphol, Everyday Architect Design Studio, KULTX, Pannaphan Yodmanee, TRK and Wasinburee Supanichvoraparch. Curated by Nisa Jewcharoen, the show asks how the myths of our time are made, by whom and to what end. The public opening night includes a ritual performance by KULTX at 7:00 PM, followed by a block party with Kaijo Brother. Opening reception: 5 November (6:00 PM – 11:00 PM).

Going Astray
Venue: Bangkok Kunsthalle
Exhibition Dates: 6 November – 17 January
Taking its title from the first Thai sound film, made in 1932 and now largely lost, Braty Collective explores collective forgetting through what remains of it: its soundtrack, photographs and newspaper records of the lawsuit that surrounded its release. Works in sound, moving image and painting consider how a film that can no longer be seen continues to live in cultural memory. Part of Open Ground, Bangkok Kunsthalle’s program for experimental and emerging Thai artists and curators. Opening reception: 6 November (6:00 PM onwards), with “Memorial Choir”, a traditional sound performance, at 6:30 PM.

At THIS IS UNLIMITED, Song Wat. Opening reception: 7 November (5:00 PM – 8:00 PM).
