The fifth Bangkok Art Biennale brings more than 200 works by 72 artists from 29 countries to 11 venues across the city, from riverside temples to museums and shopping malls. Its title pairs Bangkok, the “City of Angels”, with Mara, the figure of temptation and of the obstacles to enlightenment, as artists reflect on conflict, the climate crisis, corruption and social division. The main exhibition at BACC fills floors 7 to 9 with 37 artists, including Bill Viola, Yasumasa Morimura, Arahmaiani, Nobuyoshi Araki and Htein Lin. Venues: Wat Pho, Wat Arun, Wat Prayoon, National Museum, Art Centre Silpakorn University, Museum Siam, BACC, Alliance Française, One Bangkok, CentralWorld and Siam Paragon. Opens: 29 October.

Venue: MOCA (Museum of Contemporary Art)
Exhibition Dates: 26 October – 3 January
Indonesian artist Roby Dwi Antono’s first solo exhibition in Thailand, curated by Loredana Pazzini Paracciani in collaboration with Almine Rech, traces memory, loss and generational bonds through his blacksmith father’s world of fire and iron. The show unfolds in three stages, Arang (charcoal), Bara (ember) and Abu (ash), and includes “Ritual Arang”, a participatory installation where visitors draw on a white canvas with charcoal pieces inscribed with words about labour. Temporary Exhibition Rooms 1–3 and Atrium, G floor, included with museum admission. Open 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM, closed on Mondays. Opening reception: 26 October (5:00 PM onwards).

BEFORE IT BECOMES FORM: Touch, Trace & Transformation

Exhibition Dates: 27 October – 22 November
An exhibition by Asst. Prof. Dr. Lung-Chi Lin on the stages before a material becomes a finished form, told through touch, material samples, prototypes, process images and packaging objects. Translucent panels create a layered space of traces, hand memory and material language. Creative Space, 5th floor, free admission, open 10:30 AM – 7:00 PM, closed on Mondays.

Muse: Beyond Human
Venue: Dib Bangkok
Exhibition Dates: 27 – 30 October
Presented by Dib Bangkok with Christie’s as part of the Bangkok Art Biennale’s parallel programme, this four-day exhibition brings works by Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse to Bangkok alongside contemporary artists Peihang Benoit, Natee Utarit and Dana Schutz, reconsidering the relationship between artist and muse. At Dib26, Dib Bangkok’s satellite space on Sukhumvit 26. Open daily 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM, free admission.

Gift to Entropy
Venue: Bangkok Kunsthalle
Exhibition Dates: 30 October – 30 December
Italian artist in residence Renato Leotta brings together two bodies of work that anticipate his upcoming project at Khao Yai Art Forest: 16 mm films of flowers hidden inside aluminium cases, evoking a fragrance that can be imagined but never smelled, and folded red paper suspended in a transparent case, slowly unfolding under gravity toward a flatness it never quite reaches. In collaboration with the Istituto Italiano di Cultura Bangkok. Opening reception: 30 October (7:00 PM onwards).

BAB 2026 Symposium
Venue: Bangkok Art and Cultural Center (BACC)
Talk: 30 – 31 October (10:00 AM – 6:00 PM)

Tea Gathering with the Artist: Busui Ajaw

Talk: 30 October (3:00 PM – 5:00 PM)
As “The Preservation of Fire” draws to a close, artist Busui Ajaw and a team of Akha craftspeople welcome visitors into the Akha house built for the exhibition for an afternoon of tea, brewed from organic leaves grown on a Chiang Rai mountain peak and served in bamboo cups. The house will be taken apart over the following weekend. In Thai and Akha, seats are limited and registration is required.

Talk: 31 October (1:30 PM – 3:30 PM)
A public lecture by Patrick Flores, Chief Curator of National Gallery Singapore and one of Asia’s most influential curators. He advised Warin Lab Contemporary’s first curator mentorship programme, “Curating the Future: Art and Ecology”, whose outcome, “Strange Water Hyacinth” by Salad Khaek Collective, is on view at Nomad Art Residency Bangkok until 24 November. Conversation and Reception: "Misbehave, please."
Venue: Bangkok Kunsthalle
Talk: 31 October (4:00 PM – 6:00 PM)
Artist Prapat Jiwarangsan joins curators Rosalia Namsai Engchuan and Graiwoot Chulphongsathorn to talk about “Misbehave, please.” and his experimental moving-image practice: questioning not only power but the etiquette that keeps it in place, and making room for touch in a time of AI acceleration. In Thai and English, followed by a reception and a shared viewing of the works.

NO SIGNAL
Venue: Number 1 Gallery
Exhibition Dates: 31 October – 22 November
Wisit Techasirikosol explores the gap between symbols and meaning through shapes borrowed from traffic signs. Their familiar frames enclose abstract masses of colour, scratches and overlapping marks, asking what we really see when a signal is still there but its message no longer gets through. At Number 1 Gallery, Silom 21. Opening reception: 31 October (6:00 PM onwards).
